Flights route
Dar es Salaam (DAR) → Kilimanjaro (JRO)
The national carrier's direct hop to the mountain gateway.
- Air Tanzania
- 1.5 hours
- $80-150
Air Tanzania's DAR-JRO leg connects the coast to Kilimanjaro International Airport, the standard gateway for treks up the mountain and safaris in Arusha, Tarangire and Ngorongoro. The service runs on the national carrier's Airbus and Dash-8 fleet with a simple business and economy split. Flying saves the ten-hour drive or two-day train, and landing with Kilimanjaro itself floating outside the window on a clear morning is a fitting start to a trip.

Booking information
Book at airtanzania.co.tz or through any travel agent in Dar es Salaam. Payment by card online is sometimes unreliable - keep your booking reference and reconfirm by phone 48 hours out.
Good to know
JRO sits between Moshi and Arusha; pre-book a shuttle or have your operator collect you - taxis to Arusha run about an hour. Baggage allowance is tight (usually 15-20 kg); excess climbing gear can travel separately by shuttle bus.
Times and fares are curated guidelines, not a live timetable.
Always confirm before you travel.
